Temporary Residency

Temporary residence is the residence permit granted by the National Migration Service to foreign nationals who intend to settle in Chile for a limited period.

Temporary residence permits can be granted as either a principal applicant or as a dependent (spouse or partner of the temporary resident / children of the temporary resident, their spouse, or partner, provided they are under 18 years old or individuals with disabilities; and children over 18 but under 24, as long as they are enrolled in an educational institution recognized by the state).

Both the principal applicants holding temporary residence permits and their dependents are allowed to engage in paid activities.

The validity of temporary residence permits extends up to 2 years (24 months), except for the seasonal worker subcategory, which can have a validity of up to 5 years when limited annual stays are established.

Temporary residence permits can be extended for up to an additional 2 years.
